Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) is pleased to announce the awarding of scholarships made possible through a gift from the Detroit Colour Council (DCC), a Detroit-based professional society that promotes communication and education focused on color science and design.
Two students in KCAD’s Pamella Roland DeVos School of Fashion, Jennifer Caceres and Hadley MacIntosh, were each selected to receive a $1,000 scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year.
“KCAD and the Fashion Studies program are grateful to the Detroit Colour Council for their vital support of our students and their investment in the next generation of creative professionals,” said Associate Professor and Fashion Studies Program Chair Lori Faulkner.
“This scholarship will position recipients to make the most of their KCAD education and emerge prepared to succeed in a wide variety of creative careers.”
Caceres, a junior in the Fashion Studies program, is working to take advantage of the program’s opportunity to apply to spend her senior year studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She’s also earning a minor in Interior Design, and plans to pursue a career in the fashion industry upon graduating.
“This scholarship has made it possible for me to be one step closer to my goals,” said Carceres. “I will work very hard and eventually give something back to others, both through my career and possibly a scholarship for future students.”
MacIntosh, a sophomore, has aspired to be a fashion designer from a young age. After a fruitful first year at KCAD, she’s excited to continue growing and learning in the Fashion Studies program.
“I want to thank the Detroit Colour Council for its generous contribution toward my tuition, and for helping make my dreams a reality,” said MacIntosh. “It truly means so much to me to have the privilege to attend KCAD. This first year was more than I could have ever hoped for, and I learned so much.”
Since its founding in 1955 by a small group of designers, the DCC has grown to a membership that currently extends throughout the U.S. and Canada. A majority of DCC members are employed by suppliers to the automotive industry, and members represent a wide variety of professional functions including engineers, designers, sales people, scientists, consultants, and lab technicians.
The gift to KCAD is the latest in a long line of assistance the DCC has provided to organizations in Michigan.
“The Detroit Colour Council is very pleased to be able to assist our future designers in their education. We look forward to their continued success,” said Detroit Colour Council President Lisa Benedict. “This award allows the Detroit Colour Council to be closer to the community that we serve.”
